Coen Brothers short film "World Cinema"
"Chacun son Cinéma" projesi kapsamında ilk gösterimi 2007 Cannes Film Festivalinde yapılan Coen kardeşlerin kısa filmi "World Cinema" buradan izlenebilir.
Joel Coen: Evet.

Ceylan is awarded with "La Grande Médaille de Vermeil"
At a ceremony held on 6th of July at the Paris municipal building, Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe presented a grand medal symbolizing the city of Paris to the director Nuri Bilge Ceylan. The award, which was given for the first time in 1911 by the city of Paris, is presented to people who make artistic contributions to the people of the city. With this prize Ceylan joins a slate of world-renowned recipients of the medal, who include filmmakers David Cronenberg and Olivier Stone; French actor Jean Paul Belmondo, fashion designer Gianni Versace, awarded the medal in 1986 by then-Mayor Jacques Chirac; actors Maggie Cheung and Jackie Chan; and Nobel Prize-winning scientist Linus Pauling.
Ceylan, speaking at the ceremony, said he had first visited Paris 30 years ago when he was a student. "I had no money. I had to stay in parks and train stations. Life is very strange. I would not believe it then if they had told me I would be decorated with this medal one day" he said. "During my visits to Paris, the museums, architecture, bridges and statues of the city were my first education in the history of art."
Delanoe said they appreciated Ceylan's films and described him as "a contemporary and very big genius." Rejecting the views of French President Nicolas Sarkozy about Turkey’s European Union membership, Delanoe said, "Doors should not be closed to Turkey, but they should be open." He said that Turkey's contribution to the construction of Europe was necessary.

Zeitgeist Gets “Three Monkeys” From New Yorker
In the wake of the recent sudden closure of New Yorker Films, Zeitgeist Films has secured a deal for all US rights to Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s “Three Monkeys,” the Cannes best directing prize-winner.
Previously set for a theatrical release this month, the movie’s distribution plan will be altered slightly, but Zeitgeist said today in a statement that they will, “continue and amplify the
release pattern already established by New Yorker.” The company is hoping to release the film in New York City in April 2009.
“For me Zeitgeist is the finest film distributor around,” New Yorker’s Dan Talbot said in a statement today. “I’m delighted that they are handling this marvelous film.”
Described as “a twisty, noirish tale that opens with an ambitious politician fleeing a hit and run accident,” the “Three Monkeys” description continues, “Afraid of hurting his election chances, he pays off his chauffeur to take responsibility. This sets off a series of events in a household already simmering with hidden tensions.”
In a statement, Zeitgeist Co-President’s Nancy Gerstman and Emily Russo said that they, “feel very keenly the responsibility that Dan has given us for doing our best with ‘Three Monkeys’,” adding, “We’re honored that he would choose us to release this film and we also feel that he made the right choice.” The company released Ceylan’s previous film, “Climates.”

Such a promising talent that we mounted a retrospective of his films when he'd made only three features, Nuri Bilge Ceylan is now widely regarded as one of the finest film-makers at work today; having already won many major prizes, he carried off the Best Director award at this year's Cannes with Three Monkeys. We are delighted, then, to welcome him here to discuss that film and his work not only in cinema but as a photographer.

Guardian : Win tickets to see Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Three Monkeys at BFI Southbank
The Turkish film-maker Nuri Bilge Ceylan will be live onstage at London's BFI Southbank on Wednesday 4 February to discuss his latest film, Three Monkeys (Üç Maymun), and his career to date. We have three pairs of tickets to give away.
Ceylan's film oeuvre may be tiny by the standards of most Guardian/BFI interviewees, but his impact has been disproportionately huge. With his very first short, Koza, he made the official selection at the 1995 Cannes film festival. With 2003's Distant (Uzak), he won the grand jury prize at Cannes. In fact, all three of his most recent features – Uzak, Climates (Iklimler) and Three Monkeys have been nominated for the Palme d'Or. His background as a photographer infuses his film work, resulting in painterly compositions and contemplative images that resonate in the mind long after the film has ended.
Three Monkeys is an examination of deceit and avarice, a contemporary tale of how three essentially good people – a husband and wife and their son – are drawn into a web of lies when the husband is asked to take the rap for a hit-and-run for his politician employer. The thriller won Ceylan the best director prize at Cannes last year; it was also Turkey's official submission for the best foreign-language film Oscar, and its first to make the shortlist of nine.
We have three pairs of tickets to a preview screening of Three Monkeys and the Guardian interview with Nuri Bilge Ceylan at the BFI Southbank on Wednesday 4 February, starting at 6.30pm. For your chance to win a pair, just fill in the blanks in this link.

India's up to 'Monkey' business
NDTV to bow Turkish family drama...
Indian distributor NDTV Lumiere will bow Turkish family drama "Three Monkeys" Friday in selected big city cinemas.
Outing will be the first commercial release for the pic, which preemed in competition in Cannes and earned Nuri Bilge Ceylan the kudo for direction. Pic has also unspooled at Karlovy Vary and Toronto fests, but is not skedded for a commercial release in its native Turkey until Oct. 24.
The theatrical release of an imported arthouse pic like "Monkeys" underlines the growing competition within India to show world cinema movies. It also underlines how companies from the previously inward-looking country are becoming increasingly involved as licensees on the international festival and market circuit.
NDTV Lumiere, headed by Manmohan Shetty, previously founder of Adlabs, and Sunil Doshi, film activist and producer, is backed by broadcast news group New Delhi Television and its year-old entertainment arm NDTV Imagine. Unit operates a movie channel and is expanding into theatrical releasing, homevideo and pay-per-view. Rivals with a similar world movies axis include UTV's Bindaas Movies and Palador.
Between them, the Indian groups are believed to have acquired more than 1,000 foreign movies in the run up to the launch of the new channels -- mostly library titles. Now they are supplementing those with acquisitions of current pics.
"Monkeys" will be screened with English subtitles, will release in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore following a deal with multiplex owner PVR Cinemas.
