DVD release in USA..

DVD of Uzak (Distant) has been released by New Yorker Films in USA.. You may order it from Amazon.com..

" Nuri Bilge Ceylan's "Distant" was one of last year's most favorably reviewed foreign films, an affecting and frequently quite funny examination of urban alienation through the story of two Turkish men, a photographer and his country cousin, holed up for no good reason in an Istanbul apartment. New Yorker Video has given the picture an excellent presentation on DVD, with a fine widescreen transfer and a host of extras that includes making-of scenes, an interview with Mr. Ceylan and a fine early short, "Koza" ("Cocoon"), that illuminates the roots of his detached style and melancholic concerns."
- Review of the DVD in "New York Times" by Dave Kehr..

BBC World Cinema Award 2005

BBC Four announces the nominations for the World Cinema Award 2005. Uzak has been selected for the shortlist of BBC World Cinema Award following a poll of the United Kingdom’s leading film critics, film school heads and exhibitors....
The winner will be decided by a distinguished jury of directors and stars from the international film community, in January 2005 moderated by Jonathan Ross. All of the shortlisted films will be discussed and then a winner chosen. The award itself will be presented to the winner at a live ceremony in London, broadcast live on BBC television on January 27th 2005.

The nominated films are:

- Uzak, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Turkey
- Bad Education, Pedro Almódovar, Spain
- Hero, Yimou Zhang, China
- Motorcycle Diaries, Walter Salles, USA / Germany / UK / Argentina
- The Return, Andrey Zvyagintsev, Russia
- Zatoichi, Takeshi Kitano, Japan

About UZAK after the nominations:

"A formally beautiful and imaginative yet profoundly moving and thoughtful study of the idea of reality and separation."

-Professor Paul Coates, Aberdeen University

"A stunning film, almost flawless in its documentation of the struggles, complexities and banalities of everyday life."
-Jeff Geiger, Film Studies Director, America Studies Centre

"An unexpected masterpiece from Istanbul that wrung big themes out of the tiny circumstances of an urban sophisticate sharing his just-so apartment with a country bumpkin cousin looking for work in the big city. Everything shown is both beautifully photographed and utterly realistic. It's the most exquisitely elegant and haunting slow-burn treat of the past five years. A near-perfect affirmation of film realism as an art form."

-Nick James, British Film Institute
